Reactions To Nature Nate’s Class Action Lawsuit Saying 100% Raw Honey Is Being Mislabeled

This makes me so angry. I depend on raw honey for my health and treating wounds. When it is adulterated it actually affects my health and could even kill me since I use it to cure staph infections.

I am so upset that I’ve been led to believe that Nature Nate’s is pure raw honey. The extra money I have spent on Nate’s was because I thought I found a good quality honey. Very disappointed, and I really wish honey makers would stop misleading their consumers.

I just bought a 32 oz. Nature Nate’s 100% Organic Unfiltered Raw Honey and it was not cheap. This is very upsetting that companies make false claims and misrepresent products. I purchased this product today specifically because it stated 100% pure and natural, like straight from the bee hive. If these claim as true about the misrepresentation of this product. Please add my name to the list. Need to teach these companies and agencies a lesson about truth and ethics.

I have purchased this honey for years thinking that the label doesn’t lie. I just purchased two of the Nate’s 100% PURE MIDWEST RAW & UNFILTERED HONEY and I have reported it to the store I just open the honey used some in my tea and it altered the taste of the tea I have no ideal so I check the second bottle and it has the same altering taste. I believe there’s something wrong with this honey I will however be returning it back to the store as soon as I can!

I’ve been buying this stuff for years – really dug the taste and the fact it was “raw” – sad to see that it’s all just false advertising. I feel cheated.

Verna says:
September 17, 2022 at 8:26 am
I didn’t like the taste plus the price is suspect but now they’ve had the nerve to raise if to premium like real unheated honey. They also now list south America as origin which is a known location for China to dump their adulterated honey. They have continually found ways to get around testing too. Companies that sell and bottle honey mixtures from different sources get sent adulterated honey all the time. Store bought is ok if it’s local like whole foods.

How disappointing! I wondered how they got the honey so dark and syrupy if it was “raw”. I bought so many bottles of this!

Don Jeanrenaud says:
July 21, 2022 at 2:11 pm
I started to buy this honey because supposedly being raw meant no heat, and my health would be able to benefit from the enzymes present in Raw (unseated) honeys. As I was placing it in my cart I looked at the back label where Nate stated they gently warm the honey for pourability. Since natural enzymes begin to break down at 115 F, and Nate didn’t list the temperature of his warming procedure, I put the honey back on the shelf. No Guaranteed Raw honey- No Sale!

The name organic according to USDA does not limit in any way the amount of pesticides in what is called ORGANIC / they work for and are appointed / hired by the industries they are supposed to protect. Cancer treatment is at an all time / PESTICIDES cause cancer. Call Nate up at Texas. number on the bottle / 469/452/4429 Let them know we know his lie, I left a STRONG message, trying to get healthier / eating pesticides in my coffee.

Jamie Mueller says:
February 18, 2022 at 7:18 pm
Funny I just threw out a bottle I had, because I just opened it. And it looked really dark and not good. Which if it was in fact real honey, that would not be the case. Because I saw it had expired. But real raw honey does not in fact expire. It also had no crystallization. Real raw honey I have had in the past has crystallized. I will never buy another grocery store honey. These are the liars everyone needs to look out for. Go to a local farmer’s market or store.

Has been purchasing Nate’s honey for health reasons for a very long time. Shocked and appalled that they can be continued to allow a labeling of raw or natural when it is neither. Beyond misleading greedy like every other company out there now is disgusted beyond belief rather pay more for real honey than what I pay which isn’t cheap for crappy yellow mixed syrup with honey flavor. Please add me to class action

I found this article after I got concerned it was not real. I had a bottle of nature Nate’s in my pantry along with several other local pure honey’s and noticed it never crystallized and the others did and over time it still has not. So I took all the different kinds and brought their temps down and watched as the others crystallized right next to nature Nate’s and it never did, in fact as it froze it never even formed a crystal. It was clear as a bell and froze solid. I would not be surprised to find out it is karo syrup. I am Sick of companies doing this type of thing in the greedy quest to be rich.

Nash says:

you are 100% right. I have been using honey since childhood and seen honey in many countries. The real honey is not like Nature Nate’s honey. I explained that to my wife who spent premium cost for this sugar based honey. Just like you I was and am very disappointed because it shows how our FDA and our quality standards went down to shit. There was a time US quality standards were well known in the world. I am sure they are still there but companies like these killing those standards. I wish I have seen this page or checked out their website before buying their products and Thank God to that lady who filled the class action law suit against these greedy people. I hope and pray that they all win.

G. McMarr says:
April 4, 2022 at 7:33 pm
Yea down to shit is true, if they are adding heat to this product, as suspected, what a damn crime. Probably eating some more roundup (Glyphosate) that has poisoned the entire crops in all of USA and Mexico, and they use 1 other pesticide. The beef in this country are fed roundup laced corn, gets into the meat. And USDA does not even limit the use of pesticides, and can still something ORGANIC. Cancer and its treatment are big business in this country. We don’t have anyone looking out for us. Nate’s Texas number is on the bottle, call 4694524429 let ‘em know what we think of liars. DISAPPOINTED

And this company is reputable, they use low heat but not full pasteurization. They also harvest honey sustainably, so your grandkids can have honey too. With the severe bee decline that’s pretty important right now.

Just wondering how you know it’s heated to 120 degrees? Also wondering what method you are using to test additives and how it differs from the 3rd party testing by Nate’s Nature? Not debating. Really would like specifics before adding myself to this claim.

If it is proven in the Class Action Lawsuit that Nature Nate’s Honey has been improperly produced and labeled, then I need to add my name to this lawsuit. Because my local supplier of raw honey is out of honey for a while, I thought i would trustingly try Nate’s. I have been purchasing this honey from Sam’s Club. The label appears most convincing, and I am particular about buying honey. (I order my expensive Manuka honey online, and I will not buy any without a UMF number!). Price aside, I am more disappointed to think I may have been using an inferior product. If the honey is not completely as advertised, then seller honesty is expected, so the consumer has accurate information on which to base a purchase decision. I would be interested in the details as to why the suit has been listed as dismissed.

Really?! I’m a fellow North Texan who has purchased this specific “raw” honey for years! My mother and additional family members have also been avid users &/or purchaser’s of Nate’s brand of honey too. I’m interested to see why this class action was dismissed, since I believe right before finding this site, I saw a site with a title of “class action against Nate’s Nature has been dismissed”. Will definitely be looking into this further & honestly, at the moment, I’m in total shock over this! I mean shame on them, it’s a complete let down & also a super disappointment, if in actuality this un-raw fact has any truth to it. Include me please, if still open to consumers joining suit!

Lynn says:
April 26, 2021 at 8:49 pm
They are probably feeling the high cost of everything themselves and needed to speed up the process. If the case was in fact dismissed it may be that only temperature was a factor and needed to be adjusted in which case their operations could be monitored for a period of time to qualify the raw status of the honey. Overall this is forgivable. And it’s not the end of the world. Not yet.

Please add me to the lawsuit. I have been purchasing Nature Nate’s for the past 24 months, thinking I was purchasing pure raw honey – the best, and paying the exuberant price for it. It’s what I use in my herbal/medicinal teas and smoothies. Today, I tasted a bit of the honey, by itself for the first time, and felt a bit gritty. So I called Nature Nate’s number on the back of the bottle, to ask them why the gritty texture. No one answers calls. Then I looked them up only to find out that their honey is adulterated and not Raw. It makes me furious how they’ve been ripping me off. Shame on you!

I have been purchasing Nature Nate’s Raw and Unfiltered Honey for 15 years….maybe more. It is very expensive. I ordered it directly from Nature Nate’s and they shipped it to me at my law firm in Birmingham, Alabama. I then found it at Walmart and continued to purchase it. I have noticed the last few times I bought it that the color is very light and not dark and the flavor is not the same. I have been wondering if it had been altered in some way and I googled it just now to see if I could find Nature Nate’s honey in another store–thinking that Walmart was altering it. And, I found this. I am SHOCKED AND OUTRAGED. I would like to be added to the Class Action lawsuit as soon as possible. I live in Alabaster, Alabama and during the beginning of my purchases years ago, I was making very little money. Their website is a complete lie. Unbelievable! Nathan says:
October 5, 2020 at 12:34 pm
Even more than the impact on individual consumers who have been duped by this company – who coincidentally quote scripture and praise the lord throughout their marketing materials and website – the impact of such companies on honest hardworking beekeepers has been devastating. By misrepresenting their product as real and raw honey and then selling it for rock bottom prices, they are driving down the market price for the rest of the real honest honey producers in North America and around the world. So while Nate is talking to the media about the $100 million dollar business he has created by the grace of God, real honest people who have been part of beekeeping families for generations have gone bankrupt or are on the verge of bankruptcy because of the damage that Nate and others like him have intentionally and knowingly inflicted on the beekeeping industry in the service of their own greed. Despicable I say.

Diane says:
September 23, 2020 at 5:04 am
BEWARE of any honey you buy if it’s not straight from the beekeeper! I worked for a honey company and found out that all their honey was either fake or had added ingredients , they said it was lab tested but it was not and even a lab test won’t be able to tell if it has something else in it. And so called ORGANIC honey is not from the USA, so I definitely would stay clear of it! Buy LOCAL only or your getting nothing but fake honey! There are many fake honey manufacturers all over the US selling you the fake stuff!

Tony Betz says:
November 23, 2020 at 9:37 pm

Been buying Nate’s Raw Unfiltered Honey at Amazon for a few years now, and also purchased at other stores as well and noticed the color change varied from order to order. Then some honey crystallized and some didn’t so I voiced my concern to amazon and they couldn’t source it and told me to, that’s when I found this class action lawsuit. Sad for me cuz I thought I was getting TOP OF THE LINE, PRICEY honey and doin my body good…now I need to find another source and trying to get amazon to STOP SELLING IT !!!!!!

We thought we bought pure honey but after consuming it for some time we noticed how crystalized it became and how nasty it looked. It even smells weird. Can’t believe the bottle says their history began over 40 years ago. It’s pure garbage and God knows what people have been putting in their bodies by consuming this so called 100 percent unfiltered raw honey. We are sold lies! And pricey ones too! This needs to be labeled differently not 100% pure because it’s not.

The gang mentality displayed here is disturbing. This article, the video commentary and most of the comments assumes the company’s owner(s) is negligent and dishonest for self-serving financial gain. Why is there an overwhelming presumption of guilt and validation of claims with no validated evidence, no statements from the company and no legal determination of guilt or innocence? How does the plaintiff know that the honey is heated to 120 degrees, and why on earth would she just decide to take a bottle to a lab to have it tested? Who does that, and how do any of us know that the results are legitimate? Is it possible that the plaintiff and the law firm representing her have self-serving motivations, or that they are mistaken in some way. Who stands to receive the most financial gain in a class action lawsuit such as this? The plaintiff filing suit and the lawyers representing her. IF there is a settlement, the Class will get pennies on the dollar, and only only serve to help bolster the payday for the lawyers and named plaintiff. The heartbeat of our country’s economy is privately held small/medium sized businesses. Nature Nate’s falls in this category and the owner(s) should at least be given the benefit of doubt until proven otherwise. I buy Nature Nate’s Honey regularly, I have followed the company for a number of years, and I find more reasons to trust the company and extend benefit of doubt than to render a guilty verdict based on unsubstantiated claims.

We used to run a maple syrup farm. We could easily tell the real deal from tainted syrup — still can. I also keep bees, taste other local keepers’ honeys, etc., etc. Today, I’m at a house that only has Nature Nate’s honey. I tasted it thinking it would be good because of the labeling. This is not pure honey by a long shot. It’s had something added that isn’t honey. Even worse – there is a Bible verse on the label.

Konstantin litvinov says:

Most pure raw or unheated honey has a natural tendency to crystallize over time. … The overabundance of sugar makes honey unstable. It is natural for honey to crystallize since it is an over-saturated sugar solution. The two principal sugars in honey are fructose (fruit sugar) and glucose (grape sugar).

This article and the accompanying video are misleading and false. I have been in the honey business now for two years and have developed enough experience and knowledge to know about honey much more than these attorneys and followers are commenting on. First off, there are different types of enzymes in different types of honey, all of which have different break down temperature points when heat is applied. Also, there is a lot of debate as to what that break down temperature actually is, which is complicated by a lot of debate within the honey community and industry about what the actual temperature is. The general rule is that the enzymes in honey break down beyond a temperature of 120 degrees. Anything up to 120 degrees is held to be “safe.” There are companies that will advertise their honey as not being heated past 100 degrees, 105 degrees, 115 degrees, even 120 degrees, to bolster their marketing efforts of the quality of their honey. This is all subjective marketing and all are within the range of the generally accepted temperature levels. I am discouraged by this article and the adjoined video that once again makes statements and dialogue that presents something as true, without doing any research or speaking from a position of informed truth to comment on a matter they know nothing about. The only thing that was spoken as truth in these dialogues is that there is a lawsuit. The end.

Having said that, what IS interesting about this case is the information that this article and video don’t even talk about. I am in now way defending Nature Nate’s innocence in this case, but the points made above do not lie in the realm of truth. My second point addresses this. The truth is that there is something called an HMF score that, internationally, should not exceed 40. The lawsuit claims that Nature Nate’s HMF score was 292, which is more than 7 times the threshold score of 40. The HMF score indicates the level of break down of enzymes in honey, and so the fact that Nature Nate’s honey has such a high HMF score does indicate that there are temperatures being applied that are “cooking” and killing the enzymes in their product. The question IS how is that heat being applied? Is Nature Nate’s doing it themselves, is it their suppliers, is it happening in the shipping trucks (which routinely have high internal temperatures in their cargo holds), or is it another factor. The fact that their honey is in plastic bottles when encountering this heat may be a factor that is not being taken into account, especially with having an HMF score that is so extremely high. We do not know at this point and must wait for the investigative results to clarify this.

The final point is that there is some discussion that this honey is not raw because of things that are called ‘fillers’ that are being added to the honey – things like high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, sugar water, etc. This, in fact, makes it no longer honey in any form – raw or otherwise. It is now what the FDA has instructed manufacturers of non-honey honey’s to call ‘Blended Honey,” because of it’s mixture of additional ingredients. The problem with the honey industry in the United States is that we consume 3 times as much honey as we actually produce. Which means we are getting a lot of our honey from outside of the U.S. A recent report from an independent agency said that 80% of the honey we eat in the U.S. is not real honey and has been adulterated in some form – sugars, syrups, chemicals, etc. Another factor that makes it hard to know if what you are eating is real honey is the fact that a label does not always tell the truth behind a honey product, as many companies and efforts employ masking to cover up what their honey truly is so they can obtain a better price point for their honey. This practice has been going on for some time now, and while we have testing centers around the country whose very job is to test honey to ensure its authenticity, the players in the honey industry are constantly finding ways to fool the tests, which requires an ongoing struggle to find new ways to test honey to ensure its quality and truth in labeling.

My advice is to do your research. Honey is SO good for our bodies and has amazing health benefits. Be willing to spend more for the REAL thing, because the health benefits far outweigh the convenience of getting a honey-bear bottle of honey in plastic. Look for honey in glass jars, as the glass does not leech toxins into the honey like plastic does, especially when heat is applied – through shipping, contact with the sun, over time, or whatever. All my best to those seeking the benefits of honey. May your fight for truth and the raw honey we seek be successful!

I bought this honey, unfortunately. Shortly after i saw this class action page, Costco took this honey off the shelves. I contacted nature Nate’s on social media to get some info. Sent email. They never replied. When a business keeps quiet about something it tells me they have secrets. I don’t like being cheated. Whoever has access to a lab to test their shady honey should get it tested and proceed with the law suit if they find something suspicious.

I just purchased a bottle of this because it says on the bottle “Raw & Unfiltered Organic Honey”. I don’t want to put GMO’s in my body, and I try to eat foods that are healthy for my body. Honey is actually very good for one’s bowel health and many other things! Did you know that if you get burned, and it’s not so deep that it needs medical attention, that you can put honey on it to make it stop hurting and to help it heal? Once, after surgery, my incision opened up due to a blood vessel leaking, and it had to heal from the inside out. My doctor had me clean it first with hydrogen peroxide, and then I was to pour honey in it to help it heal??!! Amazing…all the things God put on this earth to help us!!!
